HOW LIVING MEDITATION WORKS
FIRST YOUR OWN PERSONAL MEDITATION
This is an easy technique, accessible to all, which starts with your focus on your breath, creating a space of peace. What you take with you, when you go into the street, is a marvellous feeling of relaxation and renewal. You are conscious of your thoughts, and you have the ability to focus them.
THE CONFLICT BETWEEN WHAT WE WANT, AND WHAT WE GET
LM enables you to understand, that the way life works, is that there is all too often a conflict between what we want and what we get. We are often unhappy because what we expect doesn't happen, or when we do get what we want, it isn't quite right. In things big and small, life is about resolving that conflict between what we want and what we get.
LOOK AT YOUR OWN LIFE
This rule is quite universal. Try it out on some big problem in your life - say a relationship that's gone wrong. What is it you really, really want from this person? And what are they offering you? There's a conflict there, isn't there? Now try it out on some small inconvenience that annoys you. A store has failed to deliver the promised goods. It's the same again. You want one thing, and you're having to accept another.
LM FOCUSES ON SOLVING THE PROBLEM
LM focuses on how to resolve the conflict. Our success and enjoyment is dependent on resolving that conflict in the way least hurtful to ourselves. LM makes you look at whether you're wanting the moon, or the wrong thing; whether you understand the unpredictability of events; whether you can live in the present instead of in hopes and dreams; and how acceptance of what you can't change can lead to harmony with life.
LM IS AN ATTITUDE TO LIFE
LM isn't just a good idea for the good ideas bag; it's an attitude to life. There are shelves of books of good ideas, and the problem with them is that they are an instant fix, like a massage or an aromatherapy session. Three months down the line and they've gone from your mind. If you can manage your life so that your thoughts are calm, useful and free of anger and sorrow, you can achieve your potential - and be happy!
It's worth trying, isn't it? Life is here to be enjoyed.
